When the British Hedgehog Association needed help raising awareness about making gardens safer for hedgehogs, they turned to us. Hedgehogs are in decline, and simple changes can make a big difference. We created a campaign to educate and inspire homeowners to take action. Through engaging content and clear messaging, we showed how small steps—like creating hedgehog highways or avoiding harmful traps—can have a huge impact.
We started by understanding the biggest threats facing hedgehogs and linked these issues to the school curriculum, ensuring maximum educational impact. Our research revealed an opportunity to engage younger audiences through storytelling. The result? The Littlest Hoglet, a charming animated series of six short films. Focused on hedgehog families, it delivers key safety messages in a relatable, fun, and memorable way – inspiring children to protect their spiky garden visitors. We saw an opportunity for wider media attention, and so approached several well known conservationists to support the project and do the voice over, and were able to secure TV’s Chris Packham as the voice and a natural champion for the campaign.
The doing phase was all about detail and dedication. We painstakingly crafted stop-motion animation, building intricate hedgehog models and charming miniature sets to bring the stories to life. Alongside the films, we created engaging, curriculum-aligned information packs for schools, ensuring children could learn, interact, and take action. Every frame, model, and resource was designed with care to inspire a new generation of hedgehog heroes.
On the lead up to ‘Hedgehog Awareness Week’ we informed teachers across the UK of the Keystage 1 and 2 hedgehog themed curriculum resource packs and provided previews of the ‘The Littlest Hoglet’ animated series to help them plan their lessons and assemblies. When ‘Hedgehog Awareness Week’ arrived we released one episode of the series each day which was shared on socials and viewed in schools across the UK.
